Hi. In the video you test 2 different cells, a good one and a bad one. Are you saying if you used the Sperry on the 2nd cell you tested, the known "bad cell", it would have shown as "good" or "normal"? And the purpose of using the Viking is to show it is actually bad if under load? Thank you.

When you replaced the bad module, did you have high voltage difference compared to the other modules? I replaced a module and showing 1.2 voltage difference and throws the "check hybrid system" p0a80 code on my odb2 reader. I need help.

I used the onwei tester and it come out as all the modules are bad. It also give you an option to choose the kind of battery, like agm, lithium and 4 others. Resistance was around 5.4 and 6 all across. I don't think this really work good for hybrid battery module.

I saw a video, way back, where they used a regular load tester on a newly assembled battery and went right along checking each module, disregarding polarity. The tester was one of the ones that's box shape w/ all the holes in the front and a meter above that. There was a switch at the bottom and it had short cables with large alligator clamps. HFT $20, I think the type was. 100 amp carbon pile. I'm sure there is no reading of internal resistance but it shows the draw=down over a few seconds. I wanted to know your opinion on all that. Specifically, does internal resistance correlate to voltage draw down?

Chris, your test method was indeed creative. But are there devices more suitable for this kind of testing? The battery tester you used was originally designed to test the 12v starter battery, not for a 7.2v (nominal) module. Other than worrying about the reading would be inaccurate, I do not know how that "500A cold cranking amp" was tested, and I wouldn't attempt (until I watched your video) to use it, for fearing that it would draw too much amps from the battery module thus potentially damaging it.

won't the resistance feature on a battery charger measure this just as precisely? I'm guessing if anyone has yanked their battery, they are preparing to charge it with such a charger. My sky RC charger for example can measure resistance. Or is that inferior in some way?

i used the tester you used. results voltage abovr 7.55 all cells resistance 5.00 milli ohms, all 100 healthy. but says all cell have zero charge left. what is the solution.how to charge ?

Hi Cvedeler :) have done extensive testing on Toyota hybrid battery modules over the last decade, think i have tried everything imaginable over the years and i'm always keeping my eyes and ears out for new exciting ideas and easier/ better test equipment to make testing easier, but there's never any magic unfortunately I tried a couple different types of these "load testers" a couple years back with mixed results, i found its handy to know internal resistance and these testers definitely help to find the worst very dead modules (as you have done here) but it really struggles to see any difference between extremely good and mediocre modules, as-new modules with 6500mah capacity often test very much the same as mediocre modules with 2500mah For anyone considering this testing method for cars 2009 and newer, these testers only (sort of) work on the old style modules found in gen2 Prius, the newer style "low ir" modules found in gen3 prius, camry etc have very low resistance right to the end of their life, when they are absolutely dead as a nail the resistance might come up just a tiny bit, but not much! Its a fudge job without knowing capacity! there's just no magic. i.r. alone is just not enough information to build a reliable battery, you need to know the actual capacity of each and every module to do the job properly unless you are happy to keep going back in the pack every few months and play waKaMole We need more magic in this space, testing these batteries is too time consuming and just annoying really! so many hybrid cars on the road these days and still no cheap reliable easy way to test each module without spending days standing over hobby chargers waiting for numbers! At 5:01 there are two clearly man made structures on the top of the Needle. Anyone know what they could be about (don't bother guessing)?
